Back in mid-October I decided to visit a dance convention at a hotel on Joaquina beach. Zouk is a latin form of dance and this congress brought Zouk styles from all over Central and South America like Argentina and the north of Brazil.
Each styles had an allotted time and day over the course of a long weekend and each taught these different styles with different techniques and warm-ups. As you'll see in a couple of clips for example, one class began by using a musical warm up to get groups "feeling the beat".
Zouk is first and foremost a carnival style dance and has a lot of West African influence and the word "Zouk" does in fact mean "party". This form of dance grew in popularity in the 1980s.
Due to attending Oktoberfest the next day I was only able to make a couple of hours on the first day (Friday) and I then slept through my alarm on Sunday so I wouldn't have made it out for the final day either :( Oh well! Hope you enjoy!
