If you watched my Week 7 vlogs you'll remember that earlier this month we went to a Batucada event ("Ba-too-ka-dah").
Batucada is an African influenced musical style which consists of drums, large shakers (sort of like big maracas), a cow bell and a whistle. The group is referred to as a "Bateria" (ba-teh-ree-ah). Dancers (four in this case) take up the front followed by the band. The guy/gal with the whistle is the leader (as it were) and they control the direction in which the band moves, the switch up of tempo and change of song.
It is very loud and insane, but a lot of fun to dance to and appreciate! When you think of Brazil, this is usually the kind of music you will hear :)
